In today’s fast-paced world, where everyone is busy with their own lives, it’s easy to forget how much a simple act of kindness can mean to someone. One genuine way to spread kindness is through words, and that’s exactly what the Letters for Smiles club at Rockville High School is doing.
Led by President Jayda Racedo, the Letters for Smiles club is dedicated to writing letters of encouragement to various members of the community—patients in hospitals, elderly residents in care homes, veterans, and others who may be in need of a little extra positivity. By sending heartfelt notes, the club members are able to brighten someone’s day, even if just for a moment.
The club members at Rockville High School aren’t just writing words on paper; they’re offering a connection to people who might otherwise feel forgotten. The letters written by the students often contain words of encouragement, stories, jokes, and drawings to bring a smile to someone’s face. These personal touches make each letter a unique reflection of the student’s own personality.
Recently, in an effort to continue to spread positivity, Letters for Smiles reached out to collaborate with HSFL’s mission – to support high school students in writing letters and sending other tokens of gratitude to essential workers, such as healthcare professionals and frontline staff. This partnership marks a wonderful opportunity for both groups to support the local community as they unite their missions for a broader impact.
Through their collaboration with HSFL, the Letters for Smiles club is able to expand their community outreach. Together, they can now bring even more attention to the causes they care about. We thank Jayda specifically for reaching out to HSFL! As these students continue to write, they are spreading not just words, but hope, compassion, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
