This October, High Schoolers for Front Liners had the profound honor of delivering lap blankets, heart pillows, and handwritten letters to veterans at the Baltimore VA Hospital Center. As the leaves began to fall and temperatures dropped, we knew these items would bring both physical warmth and emotional comfort to those who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Ms. Rosalind Gray, Voluntary Service Specialist at the Baltimore VA Hospital Center, shared encouraging feedback that underscores the importance of our work. “Patients have been looking for more,” she told us, adding that “the last batch of blankets flew off the shelves.”

Her words remind us that behind every blanket and pillow is a veteran seeking comfort during their recovery. In total, we donated 243 pillows, over 1,000 handwritten letters of appreciation to veterans, and 20 blankets.

HSFL President Alvin Lee expressed the significance of our work, saying, “It was so meaningful to know that our work is having a real impact on the veterans at the VA Hospital Center. It drives me to do more and to continue serving our front liners.”

As fall deepens and winter approaches, the need for these care items only intensifies. At HSFL, we’re committed to continuing this vital work. The positive response from veterans and staff at the Baltimore VA motivates us to do even more.

High Schoolers for Front Liners is always looking for more volunteers. If you want to help out the community, please reach out.
