We recently received an uplifting message from Hannah Murphy, a World Languages (Spanish) teacher and one of the sponsors of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapter at Hallie Wells Middle School. Since 2021, these NJHS students have been actively involved in service initiatives, and their latest effort—contributing to our “Letters for Veterans” campaign—has been nothing short of extraordinary.
After learning about our project three years ago, Ms. Murphy asked if there were any additional requirements or instructions for writing letters. Not only did the NJHS students follow the guidelines, but they also poured remarkable creativity and sincerity into their work. The result? 352 heartfelt letters expressing gratitude, support, and respect for those who served our country.
Each of these letters represents far more than just words on a page. They hold messages of compassion, acknowledgment, and appreciation for veterans’ sacrifices. The scale of producing 352 letters showcases both the dedication and the empathetic spirit of the NJHS members at Hallie Wells Middle School—proving that even small acts, when multiplied by many, can have a profound and uplifting impact. Being in middle school is a formative time, and these students have exemplified how a strong commitment to community service can unite individuals of all ages under a common goal of gratitude and kindness.
For veterans, receiving personal notes of thanks can be a deeply moving experience. Knowing the next generation sees and values their service helps bridge generational gaps and affirms that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. By writing these letters, the NJHS students have forged a meaningful connection between middle schoolers and the veterans who protected our freedoms.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Murphy for reaching out and to every NJHS member for demonstrating their commitment and generosity. Your contribution shows the true power of service—bringing people together through mutual gratitude. We can’t wait to distribute these letters and share the warmth you’ve poured into them.
If other schools, organizations, or individuals are interested in participating in the “Letters for Veterans” initiative, feel free to get in touch. It’s an incredible way to spread hope and kindness—one letter at a time.
