Recently, HSFL students had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at MedStar Washington, where they personally handed out our handmade heart pillows to patients. This meaningful experience left a lasting impact on both the volunteers and the recipients.
According to Austin Moon, HSFL President, the act of directly distributing these heart pillows was incredibly significant. Patients find inspiration in knowing that high schoolers have devoted their time to creating items of comfort specifically for them.
For many patients, these interactions with HSFL volunteers may be their only outside connection during their hospital stay. The simple act of engaging in conversation or sharing a smile can make a tremendous difference in their well-being, reminding them that they are cared for and not alone.
When our volunteers can directly interact with patients, the impact of their work becomes even more tangible. Witnessing the smiles, gratitude, and sometimes even tears of joy on the faces of patients as they receive a heart pillow brings a deep sense of fulfillment.
This experience at MedStar Washington reinforces the incredible impact that HSFL and its volunteers can have on the lives of those in need. We are honored to have had the opportunity to bring happiness and comfort to patients, one heart pillow at a time.
