2022 was the second year of our annual Holiday Drive! We once again donated to the Medstar Washington Hospital Center. With the incredible support of our volunteers, we were able to donate 300 heart pillows and 71 lap fleece blankets.
We would love to make this a tradition at HSFL because it represents an opportunity to show our continued support to cancer patients, seniors, and the greater Washington area.
Joining us on the trip was one of our student volunteers, Juho. Juho has always been an excellent volunteer – showing his support during in-person events like the Ukraine fundraisers. On the trip, Juho helped bring in all the heart pillows and was there to move them into the Medstar Washington.
I personally believe having the opportunity to see where all our work goes is what is truly enlightening about community service. Being able to see the gratitude on the nurse’s faces and know that our pillows will be given to patients is so heartwarming. Personally, these are the moments that speak to me the most. While it is difficult managing a large group, I know that my work is actively helping cancer patients, cardiac patients, and those struggling to recover. I hope that Juho was able to experience this feeling too.
Again, thank you so much to all our student and parent volunteers. Another huge thank you to Juho for coming along with us to donate the heart pillows to Medstar. We are looking forward to seeing what more you can do!
