Determined to make the most of my time at home after the Covid-19 Pandemic, I joined my sister, co-founding a non-profit organization dedicated towards creating homemade masks for frontline workers.
What started as a daily evening project to cut, sew, and assemble masks with my sister soon became a family effort, with my parents joining us as well. Together, we witnessed our small group grow to over 300 members within a few months.
Creating HSFL taught me the importance of being proactive during challenging times, and it allowed me to form a close-knit community of my own.
During individual hospital deliveries, I had the opportunity speaking with injured veterans and hearing their stories. In the midst of the organized chaos managing my organization, these interactions were the memories that I cherished the most. Moments like these taught me that while collective action can create positive change, it is the personal relationships that breathe life into a community and give it meaning.
